Coheed and Cambria are this decades's elf-rock-birthed-of-hardcore standard-bearer, but Into Another endured their share "What the hell is this crap? This sounds like Rush!" from close-minded teens years earlier.

After Green Day got signed and got huge in 1994, A&R reps snatched up every successful act with connection to the local punk scene of every major city in America, and Hollywood Records was quick to grab this proggy offshoot of New York Hardcore legends Underdog and Bold, hoping to make another million seller like Dookie. Hollywood Records (Disney) grabbed Into Another, which proved to be as terrible a business investment as The Jesus Lizard, Jawbox, Shudder to Think, Shift, Smoking Popes, Jawbreaker, Handsome, Samiam, Seaweed, and the other dozens of great (but not commercially viable) acts that cashed in on the mid-nineties punk rock gold rush that produced a slew of great records with low sales numbers.

All these acts have since broken up (not counting reunion tours), but they've all proved hugely influential on one band or another that you can find on a station called The Edge or The Rock at any given moment. When Coheed exploded onto K-Rock LA, many curmudgeon musos (myself included) remarked "What the hell is this, this sounds exactly like Into Another." The more things change...
