I've debated the National Review Online's Rich Lowry on the radio in the past and it was a good time, but his recent remarks about the food stamp programs is really disturbing and typical of most conservative pundits. Fox News has been pimping its phony investigative report of the SNAP program for a while now and as is their form, their commentators attack average Americans in need of help after conservatism crashed our economy. John King highlights the example the Fox News special used of the La Jolla surfer dude named Jason as their poster child to enrage the conservatives.

Lowry: ...and government has gone out and deliberately eroded the natural sense of stigma Americans feel about being on the dole in any form and that's a disgrace.

You can always count on conservatives to attack the people most in need of help in America. He's not only talking about SNAP, but also about those Americans who are on unemployment and welfare also. Americans shouldn't be humiliated for needing to use government services when they have to, but cons like Lowry believe in the shaming method to solve unemployment in America. Rich, I don't think that's a solution. Americans would rather be working and making a decent wage so they can pay their bills and feed their families. Kirsten Powers then responds to the surfer dude and Lowry's claims about SNAP.

Powers: That's kinda like the homeless guy that lives in a mansion, the panhandler who lives in the mansion. We can always find these anecdotes, but the Center on Budget and Policy did a study and found that 87% of the people that were receiving SNAP benefits had worked the previous year and then the following year, so it tends to be people who really are inbetween jobs.

Other Fox talkers would rather mock the poor than help solve the problems of our country.
