Blaze Foley was a singer-songwriter from Texas who's work is little known outside of certain music circles. His songs have been covered by heavyweights such as Merle Haggard and John Prine, and Lucinda Williams paid tribute to him in her song 'Drunken Angel', off of her Grammy-winning album Car Wheels On A Gravel Road. An eccentric who lived in bars and friends' couches, Foley was so obsessed with duct tape that he made a duct tape suit that he would wear around Austin. He was tragically shot to death in 1989 while defending his friend Concho January from his violent son Cary January (who was ultimately aquitted of murder for reasons of self-defense). There are few songs that move me every time I hear them, and 'Clay Pigeons' is definitely at the top of the list. This version is from Foley's live album, Live At The Austin Outhouse
