The Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee pretends naming a DHS replacement they like will get them to cooperate on the part of the immigration bill they wanted to pass already.

Never mind that immigration from Mexico has already hit the "net zero" mark, or that this immigration bill that passed through the Senate was larded up with a bunch of goodies for the military industrial complex and defense contractors. The Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee wants us to believe that if President Obama just nominates someone they like to replace Janet Napolitano as head of the Department of Homeland Security, they might finally be willing to cooperate with passing this "border security measure."

So forget about it helping with passing the rest of the immigration bill. It might help with the part that the Democrats agreed to as a compromise to get the bill through the Senate, which is further militarizing our border, and which just so happens to be the only part of the bill that Republicans want to get passed anyway. So in other words, the status quo, which is do things their way or the highway and they're going to keep obstructing everything else.

Chair of House Homeland Security Names Possible Contenders For Napolitano Replacement:

Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, mentioned three possible people that House Republicans would probably like to see replace Janet Napolitano, the secretary of homeland security who announced Friday she would resign from her post in September to become president of the University of California system.

McCaul named Thad Allen, the retired commandant of the Coast Guard, Ray Kelly, the New York Police commissioner, and William Bratton, who has headed up the New York, Los Angeles and Boston police departments.

"I think any three of those coming in would gain much respect from House Republicans and could help us at a time when we're really trying to push this border security measure out of the House of Representatives," McCaul said on "Fox News Sunday."

The House doesn't have anything to say about who President Obama's nominees are, so they'd better take this up with their counterparts over in the Senate. I look forward to any of them cooperating with President Obama on anything at about the time hell freezes over.
