While I don't agree with everything Bill Maher said here since he's playing deficit hawk instead of talking about rolling back the Bush tax cuts and I don't believe in putting millions of senior citizens in poverty by eliminating their safety net and destroying Social Security with "entitlement reform" and I think we need to make that tax less regressive, I do appreciate him calling out the hypocrisy of the tea partiers and whether they're willing to say we need to cut defense spending.

I'll also add that it's ironic that a whole lot of these tea party protesters that I've seen on video look like they're probably on Social Security already. I'm sure that most who follow this blog knew that already (along with anyone who has....you know... eyes and has watched the protests).

Maher takes a page off of Cenk's book with calling the tea party protesters out for not protesting on Wall Street. In Maher's case it's military spending instead but it boils down to the same issue; why weren't you protesting when Bush was running the show if you're really opposed to what you say you are? I'd like to see more of that in our media and maybe some of them that call themselves "journalists" instead of comedians bothering to point out the "movement's" hypocrisy.

Bill's too much of a Libertarian for my taste but there are a lot of things we agree on. This was one of them. America's "big stupid boat" is our empire. Just lay off the "entitlements" criticism Bill unless you want to explain what happens to our society and our economy if we'd eliminate it. The richest among us can afford to make sure that those who are the most vulnerable don't fall into abject poverty.
