Arthur Honegger: One of the pioneering Les Six.

At the risk of getting ahead of the Christmas rush, I thought I would put this up early (I know . . . judging from retail stores, I'm late). By way of the seemingly endless collection of French Radio transcriptions, here is a broadcast performance, recorded circa 1956 of Arthur Honegger's Une Cantate de Noel (A Christmas Cantata).

It features Pierre Mollet, Baritone - Maurice Durufle`, organ - the Chorus of the RTF, conducted by Yvonne Gouverne` - the Children's Choir of the RTF, conducted by Jacques Joineau and The French National Orchestra conducted by Jean Martinon.

Not your typical Christmas music. But then, Honegger wasn't your typical composer.

A good deal all around. And it isn't really likely this performance has seen the light of day since the 1950's either, so consider that a bonus.

Enjoy.
