(Elliot Janeway and Rep. Lee Hamilton - May 28, 1975)

"I'm not a pessimist. What I try to do, in identifying real danger, is put forth ways and means of turning them into false alarms."

Elliot "Calamity" Janeway, the man who repeatedly said over and over we were heading towards catastrophe, even in the 1970's when things were only moderately rosier than they are now. Joining him on this panel were Representative Lee Hamilton. This broadcast, from the long-running radio series "National Town Meeting" also featured Dr. Marvin Kosters and featured questions from the audience (which I had to leave out due to time constraints - it was an hour program). The questioning got lively and the fears were right out of the present. Janeway got the dubious moniker of "Calamity" because of his dire predictions - many of which turned out to be true. The Ostrich Theory appears to be timeless.

One wonders what he'd have to say now.

(Things may come and things may go, but Mac and Cheese and Recessions just go on forever!)
