Unless you're a sixties fan and avid collector, the name Love Sculpture isn't going to mean very much, if anything, to you. They were a moderately successful Blues/Psych band in the UK and, even though they had albums released in the States at the time, didn't make very much dent with the audience. I think you might want to chalk that up to getting lost in the 1968 music blizzard.
What's significant about the band is who was in it and what happened when they went their separate ways. Dave Edmunds was lead guitarist and chief songwriter of the band. When they broke up in 1970, he embarked on a solo career that paid off very well for him, eventually teaming up with Nick Lowe to form Rockpile. Edmunds became a much sought-after producer and became an integral part in the 70's music scene. His classic I Hear You Knockin' makes its way on to oldies stations all the time.
But tonight's track is before all that. As Love Sculpture they appeared in session for the Top Gear radio program over the BBC (not related to the massively popular Car show currently on BBC America). And on February 4, 1968 they recorded this track, Do I Still Figure In Your Life.
If you aren't familiar with them, now's your chance to check out Love Sculpture and hear what you missed.
And speaking of missing things . . .
