Hot off the press this week. A few weeks ago I ran a track by the French Shoegaze/Alternative/Psych/Experimental band Cotton Club on the Roundtable and got a note the other day from the band with a new track they just finished cutting in the studio. Heaven Haze is brand new, not off an album, not a single (yet) and not off an ep (not yet anyway).
You get to hear it here first. I've been pretty high on them since I first heard them a few months ago Lot of good stuff with a great point of view and good production - all the important elements.
The language thing is no longer an issue I don't think. Even though they are French, they sing in English as a lot of bands in Europe are doing. But that really shouldn't be a criteria for enjoying what a band does or where they come from musically. A lot of bands in the 1970's were at the vanguard of the Progressive Movement and they were relegated to cult status because labels in the U.S. wouldn't sign anyone who didn't sing in English. Their loss and ultimately our loss because we had a real hard time finding and hearing about these bands, and what they had to say transcended any language you can imagine. But with the current state of affairs on the Internet, there are no longer technological borders separating anyone and their art from anyone else. For that reason, I would urge you to just start digging and hit the browse icon as much as possible.
Cotton Club have a bright future and there are a lot more where they came from just waiting.
