(Adrienne Pauly - The Chanteuse is timeless)
I first heard about Adrienne Pauly in 2006, when her first album came out. She is signed to Warners (as far as I know still is) and has been back-and-forth between a singing career and acting career in French film. Unless you are a film buff or spend a lot of time listening to French radio, chances are you probably know nothing about her. That is more often than not a problem with the ever-present language barrier and why most record companies are reluctant to release some material in countries other than the originating one, especially if it's not one that uses English as a first language.
Too bad because a lot of good music (well produced, well played and well sung) goes unnoticed by the majority of the public because the record company is afraid you will avoid it because you can't understand every word perfectly. They forget music is a universal language and not the exclusive property of any one country or nationality.
But oh well. Suffice to say Adrienne Pauly is a wonderful talent. And this track, Pourquoi is a good song, no matter how well you understand the words or not. The notes don't discriminate.
