Over to Barcelona this week for a concert recorded live by Radio Nacional de Espana this past May 1st. The orchestra, the venerable Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona y Nacional Catalunya is led by Josep Caballe`-Domenech and featuring rising young star, the Spanish pianist Ivan Martin in music of Roberto Gerhard, Enric Palomar and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Martin is playing the World Premier of the Piano Concerto of Palomar and it's always exciting to hear something for the first time, just like everybody else is. The Gerhard entry are the Dances from Don Quixote and ending the concert are the Symphonic Dances of Rachmaninoff. A pretty nice concert all the way around and RNE via their Radio Clasica outlet does a terrific job in the recording department.
Clocking in at almost 90 minutes, it's broken up between two players. The top player features the Gerhard and Palomar and the bottom player features the Rachmaninoff. Due to time constraints (and also because most of you don't speak Spanish) I had to cut out the intermission interview with Palomar, but it's going in the archive so it will always be around. Announcements are in Spanish and those are edited down as well.
And for you note takers:
