No shortage of news on this particular day in 1987. Starting with reports that former FBI Director William Webster was to be appointed CIA director, in wake of the Iran-Contra Affair later on that day by the White House. Previous appointee Robert Gates was rejected based on just too many mummies in the closet. The Israeli espionage case of Jonathan Pollard was continuing. Revelations that the genetic disposition of chickens could be altered. TRW was accused of wildly overcharging the Pentagon for military parts. Louisiana, smack in the middle of their Mardi Gras celebrations (this was a Tuesday in 1987) would wake up the following morning to the painful realization the state was just about at the bottom of the economic heap, with massive unemployment and a staggering amount of high school dropouts to contend with.
And if all that weren't enough:
We lost him.
