On this January 21st in 1981, the news was all about the release and arrival on neutral ground of the fifty American hostages held in Tehran for 444 days. Bittersweet for the former Carter administration, where one aide was overheard to remark the timing was suspicious. But the odyssey was over and the time for finger pointing would happen soon enough. It was also President Reagan's first full day in office, with swearing in ceremonies for members of his Cabinet.
