News on this day in 1957 was surrounded by optimism of one kind or another. Starting with news of the first non-stop around-the-world flight of three B-52 Bombers in less than 45 hours. The world seemed to become much smaller after this day. News on the upcoming Polish elections also offered some optimism. But probably more breath-holding than anything else.

News also on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Egypt and the Gaza strip, giving some optimism for peace (finally) in the Middle East, but breath wasn't being held in this case. And probably for good reason.

On Capitol Hill - Labor Racketeering Hearings were continuing with Teamster President Dave Beck a no-show. Also hearings continuing on Anti-American Activities. No end in sight on that.
