The Sunday elections in Guatemala were undoing a recount due to massive voter fraud, nullifying the initial results. The Senate was debating the Panama Canal Treaty which was coming up for a vote on the 13th. Energy legislation was being argued back and forth and Hustler Publisher Larry Flynt was listed in critical condition after having just undergone his second surgery for bullet wounds he sustained in an attempted assassination outside a courthouse in Georgia. Police detained a 20 year old Teddy Morris on suspicion of attempted murder but was later released when the accusations later turned out to be a hoax.
