Everybody asked "what now?"


With the war in Europe heading to an end within days and the war in the Pacific a few months later, it came as an overwhelming shock to the country that its president was dead. But in late afternoon on April 12, 1945, news spread quickly that President Roosevelt had suddenly died at his vacation retreat at Warm Springs, Georgia.
