Police in Terrell, Texas, captured early Tuesday the man suspected of shootings at four homes and a convenience store on Monday. Charles Everett Brownlow, Jr. 36, was arrested in a wooded area near Highway 80, police chief Jody Lay said. Brownlow’s arrest came after an intense manhunt after a series of grisly discoveries throughout the day, starting with the body of a woman shot in the head at home. At 10 p.m., shots were fired at another home -- luckily injuring no one -- and a man matching Brownlow’s description was seen fleeing. Thirty minutes later, another shooting was reported at another home where a man and woman were found dead, but a three-year-old was still alive. Less than 15 minutes later, another man was found dead at a convenience store. Police tracked Brownlow to the woods, where he was hiding in a ditch.

"We're all in a state of shock," said Terrell Police Chief Jody Lay. "This is going to have a big impact on us."

The shootings began around 5 p.m. Monday when police started finding bodies. The first victim was discovered in a home with a bullet wound to the head. Officers were investigating that death when they received word of an arson and a second body nearby.

A friend of the suspect was shot at in a third location, but was not injured.

At this time, a motive for the slayings is unknown.

"We've had a tough year here in Kaufman County, and this makes it a little bit tougher." Chief Lay said. "But we're gonna get through it. We're resilient. We're gonna rise above it and we're gonna get through it."
