In February, Sony commissioned a remix of David Bowie's 1977 track "Sound and Vision" for an Xperia Z smartphone ad campaign. The stripped-down version lasted only 58 seconds, but it generated quite a buzz from Bowie fans, who yearned to hear the full cut. Now, they'll get their chance. On October 7th, Parlaphone Records will release an extended version of the remix as a digital download.

According to Bowie's website, this re-interpretation features only Bowie's vocal, Roy Young's piano, and Mary Hopkin's backing vocals. A statement on the site continues, "By stripping away much of the original instrumentation. . . the song takes on a new reflective resonance."

The original "Sound and Vision" -- our featured song tonight -- was a highlight on Bowie's 1977 classic, Low. Bowie's most recent album, The Next Day, was released earlier this year.
