As you'll see in the police surveillance video above, a 33-year-old blind man walking alone in the Germantown section of Philadelphia was shoved, beaten, and robbed while witnesses walked by without intervening.
"The blind man, who was in the Germantown area, appeared to be pushed from behind and falls off the curb and into the street.
While on the ground, the blind man takes two punches, and then gets kicked nearly a dozen times by the attacker. He offered no defense. Police noted that there were bystanders in the video that did nothing to intervene. There were no calls to 911 until after the attack, and that call did not even specify that he had been attacked.
When the attacker is finished, tired, or bored with pummeling the helpless blind man, he simply walks away. He doesn't flee, run, just walks.
"A challenged person that can’t see is attacked in midday, and no one comes to his aid? That's insanity," said one resident."
Police have released this video, hoping the footage of the attack that took place on October 2nd will help lead to an arrest of the attacker. The victim, who said he did not recognize the voice of the attacker, suffered injuries to his head and face.
One passer-by glances back as the man is being stomped on, and continues on his way. No one stops, no one shouts for help...nothing. According to the Philadelphia Chief of Police, Charles Ramsey, it's becoming more common for witnesses to pull out their phones and record a video than it is to call the police.
