Gov. Rick Perry's (R-TX) memory hasn't gotten any better.

At a conservative conference over the weekend, members of the audience had to remind the Texas governor which state he was in.

"We need to fight harder to break through that buzz cloud of misinformation that's out there, and to demonstrate that we, Republicans, are, by our nature, the sympathetic party, the party that truly allows people to take care of themselves," Perry told a crowd at the RedState Gathering in New Orleans. "Because our policies make people's lives better. Those who would argue the fact that you don't need to look any father than the state of Texas."

"There are many other states that embrace those conservative values, the approach that we've taken over the years," he continued. "I'm in one today, in Florida. You look at South Carolina, you look at Florida."

"You're in Louisiana!" someone in the audience shouted.

"I know," Perry replied. "And I said that. I'm in one of those states that reflect those today in Louisiana."

"You got that!" a woman yelled back.

"I got that," Perry agreed. "But I'm from Texas, so let's start there."

Wayne Slater at The Dallas Morning News Trail Blazers Blog noted that Perry's look had changed even if his short-term memory had not improved.

"For one thing, when the Texas governor showed up in New Orleans, he was wearing black horn rimmed glasses that are new to his appearance," Slater wrote. " For another, he was wearing dress shoes. Two years ago, when he launched his presidential bid with an announcement at a summer RedState gathering, he wore his trademark cowboy boots. But back surgery has made him cut back on the boots."

During a 2012 Republican presidential debate, the governor had failed to remember which three agencies of government he wanted to cut from the federal government.

“The third agency of government — I would do away with Education, the, um, Commerce and let’s see,” Perry said, glancing down at the podium. “I can’t. The third one, I can’t. Sorry. Oops.”
