Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan is embracing the fried chicken restaurant chain whose founder recently admitted funding groups that oppose LGBT rights.
During a short and unconventional interview with WDBJ in Virginia, reporter Orlando Salinas asked Ryan what came to mind when he thought of Chick-fil-A.
"Good chicken," Ryan replied. "Free people exercising their free speech rights."
In July, Chick-fil-A founder Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that his company was “guilty as charged” of working to prevent marriage equality, sparking to a series of protests and counter-protests.
While the super-fit VP candidate seems to love fried chicken soaked in peanut oil, he doesn't feel the same way about cake.
"I'm not a big sweets guy," Ryan explained. "I like ice cream, I like cheese. Kind of a Wisconsin dairy thing. You're not going to bring that up are you? Cause my wife says, 'Don't say that no one can relate to you!'"
"Like, having a piece of cake is just like having asparagus as far as I'm concerned. So I'm like, well just eat the asparagus."
But Ryan became serious when he was asked to respond to the words "transparency as a politician."
"Fire Barack Obama and hire Mitt Romney," he said.
