Thornapple, Wisconsin is a little, podunk town in Northern Wisconsin, with a population of 711 people. But despite being set in the scenic Northwoods of the state, this little out of the way is in hot water with the federal government.
In June 2023, the town board decided to get rid of their electronic voting machines because of The Big Lie, even though the last three years was filled with failed lawsuit by Trump and is supporters and Fox had to pay $800 million to Dominion for spreading The Big Lie, the town's elected leaders were still afraid that Biden and the Communists were stealing elections with those devil voting machines.
Don't believe me, just listen to this ten minute conversation between Jack Zupan, town supervisor and one of his constituents. As a caveat, I must warn you to put any drinks down before listening, lest you do a spit take from what this yahoo had to say. Or, if you want to savor it later, you can get a sample from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Molly Beck, who broke the story:
In a recording made by Webster of an April 2 telephone conversation with town supervisor Jack Zupan that was posted to YouTube, Zupan tells Webster that the board voted to remove the machines because "we believe that there was a stolen election and the computers have to go because they're full of error."
Zupan did not return multiple phone calls from the Journal Sentinel over several days to discuss the contents of the recording.
"There are court cases right now that show that anybody can hack and manipulate that machine within just a matter of a couple of minutes," he said, referring to a federal lawsuit over Georgia's voting system that was filed before the 2020 election and has yet to be resolved. "We want your vote to count, not to be taken away."
At one point during the 10-minute phone call, Webster said the board was "absolutely breaking the law."
Zupan replied, "I couldn't possibly do worse than what Biden does."
Not so coincidentally, about the same time that the Thornapple town board made their ill-advised decision, election denier Douglas Frank was making the rounds in Northern Wisconsin, spreading The Big Lie and other conspiracy theories. To give you an idea of what a joke Frank really is, he was part of Michael Gableman's election fraudit and was in contact with the Georgia election clerk that was allowing people to copy the hard drive of voting machines. At a meeting in May 2023, Frank told attendants that it was his group's goal to eliminate all the voting machines in Nothern Wisconsin. Yeah, he's straight up straight jacket material.
Well, Webster called the state's election commission and filed a formal complaint. Word worked its way to Disability Rights Wisconsin, who are absolute bulldogs when it comes to protecting the rights of people with disabilities, and to the federal government, who is now looking into the matter:
On Tuesday, attorneys within the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division's Voting Section sent a letter to Suzanne Pinnow, Thornapple's chief election official, seeking information about the decision to remove electronic voting machines and information on how the township is accommodating voters with disabilities.
Pinnow has two weeks to get the information to the USDOJ, which could prove to be challenging, since the town board isn't talking and has ordered her not to discuss the matter.
I would advise the Thornapple elected leaders not to hold their breath for Trump to come to their rescue either. He has his own troubles to deal with and has never had much of a record of helping his followers in their times of needs.
