Fox regular Tammy Bruce has got the feigned outrage routine down pat, which is nothing new for her, but this latest rant on this Friday's Hannity was something special when it comes to the sheer audacity of what came out of her mouth, along with managing to avoid being struck by lightning in the process.
We all know they're not happy over on Fox that Biden's star-studded fundraiser made over $26 million, while Trump's campaign is still lagging behind Biden in cash, the RNC is a mess, and Trump and his allies are more than willing raid the campaign coffers to keep him out of prison rather than worry about down-ballot races.
So how do they combat that on Trump's propaganda channel? With their usual shtick accusing Democrats of being the party of "elitists," pretending Trump gives a damn about anyone that's actually had to work for a living, and using Trump's phony photo-op with police officers in New York, pretending he cares about "law and order" when he supports insurrectionists and is facing 88 felony charges as some proof that he's actually some man of the people.
Here's Bruce's screeching when asked by guest host Jason Chaffetz about the Trump photo-op:
CHAFFETZ: Tammy, I want to go to you, because the optics, the contrast, the execution of what happened here, I mean, you got a dead New York City police officer and nothing from President Biden.
BRUCE: Yeah, it's awful, and yet, it perhaps is one of the most honest evenings we've seen in a very long time. We've always seen honesty with President Trump. One thing about that guy is that you know who he is. He is always going to be himself. He never adjusts the nature of what he's going to say or do to trick people or to pander.
And you saw the nature of how he cares about, not just police officers and the firefighters, but the nature of blue-collar work, regular, everyday, anonymous heroes in this country, average citizens, putting their lives on the line to keep their own community safe.
That is the ultimate of the American ideal. And so that is Trump. And that's what infuses, that kind of empathy, infuses what he says and does no matter, whether you've liked his style or not. That's why he had success.
Biden, on the other hand, is also, was completely himself. The Democrats, you know, we used to call them, Jason, you'll recall, limousine liberals. This is nothing new. They've just been caught at the lie that they care about the average individual.
This was just—it was obscene. It was disgusting. It was, certainly a lack of empathy. And, it's almost as though empathy has been excised from them in some kind of a surgery, and they're all there, you know, laughing it up, having a great time with their big celebrity pals, making lots of money, the ultimate disconnection with the nature of what's happening in this country.
Two very distinct visions of what's going on. One, they used to say all roads lead to Rome. That used to be true, right? Different policies, but all to the same place. The Democrat road now goes off that freaking cliff, and it is the Republican road, no matter what your politics, that at least lead us to some semblance of a future that we can rely on.
Never mind that future might mean the end of democracy in America. Once again, it's opposite-land over on Fox.
Lack of empathy. Trump. Check.
Cares about blue collar workers. Biden. Check.
Disconnected from reality while hanging out with their celebrity pals. Trump. Check.
I don't know what world Bruce is living in, but apparently it's one where you sell your soul for some money to lie on a daily basis. I'm not sure how she manages to look at herself in the mirror every day, but I guess like the rest of them who work for her network, the paycheck makes being willing to destroy what's left of American democracy a little easier if you've still got anything resembling a conscience left.
I still continue to wonder how many of them are actually just insane, and believe the crap that comes out of their mouths that they spew on Fox and other right-wing networks, and how many are just craven opportunists that know full well what they're doing, know full well that they're repeating lies, and just don't care as long as it makes them rich. My guess is most are the latter.
