Most dog owners are familiar with how their pets love to go for car rides. Sticking their heads out the window and taking in all the sights and smells at super speed. They especially love it if the ride includes stopping for a pup cup or some chimken nuggies!
But going car-car ride has taken on a whole new meaning.
Some really wonderful and really clever New Zealanders, in an effort to promote people adopting dogs instead of buying them, picked two shelter dogs, Porter and Monty, and taught them to drive using some wooden mock-ups of cars. After eight weeks, they were rready to hit the road, and using two modified Minis, the dogs actually took spins around on a racetrack.
Naturally, I immediately thought of trying it with one of my three hound dogs, but quickly dismissed the idea. I'd be too afraid that they would see a squirrel and try to to tree it with our car. And then try to explain that to the insurance company.
