Three years ago, Denver meteorologist Ryan Marshall snapped on live TV after getting pulled from a nice, warm studio to do a live shot in the middle of nowhere to show the viewers that it was indeed snowing, just like he had predicted back in the studio. It was a wonderful display of sarcasm which was only blemished by a bit too much self-pity. But bless his heart, he did have a very valid point. Why do TV news programs insist on sending people out into weather events. We all have windows in our homes. We can look out and see that it's snowing. Why debase your staff by making them stand out in the storm being miserable to do the same thing? And that's not to mention the danger they can be in if the driving is treacherous.
Although, in the northern part of the country, I do have to admit feeling a certain schadenfreude when you see a news van sinking through the ice on a lake.
