There is yet another tape of Trump pressuring Republicans to try to get them to do something totally illegal in relation to the 2020 election. And this new tape is crazy because it also involves Ronna Romney McDaniel and Michigan election officials.
The Detroit News is reporting that this recording shows Trump "personally pressured two Republican members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers not to sign the certification of the 2020 presidential election."
The call was placed on November 17, 2020, shortly after the election. On the call was RNC Chairwoman, Ronna Romney McDaniel and 2 Republican Wayne County canvassers - Monica Palmer and William Hartmann. Trump told them that they would look "terrible" if they signed the certification. He went on to say something that he has said many other times, both publicly and privately: "We've got to fight for our country. We can't let these people take our country away from us."
Ronna Romney McDaniel allegedly put herself right in the mix of questionable behavior herself, telling them both: "If you can go home tonight, do not sign it. ... We will get you attorneys."
Trump agreed, saying: "We'll take care of that."
Following that promise of legal representation -- a material gift in exchange for doing something clearly illegal -- Palmer and Hartmann left the canvassers meeting without signing the official statement of votes for Wayne County. The next day they unsuccessfully attempted to take back their votes in favor of certification.
This telephone call took place just before Michigan lawmakers met with Trump at the White House on November 20th where he pressured them to change the outcome of the election despite their protestations that no evidence had surfaced showing election fraud on any scale.
If this conspiracy had been successful, Michigan's certification of the 2020 election would have been delayed.
These recordings are yet another example of how Trump put intense pressure on individual states in an attempt to quite literally steal the election and overturn the will of the voters.
It is unclear if this latest revelation will add to Trump's legal trouble or if this tape could be used in other cases, for example the Federal January 6th case, scheduled to start on March 4, 2024, barring the Supreme Court declaring Trump immune from all prosecution.
We'll keep you updated.
