In this weeks installment of Everything Trump Touches Dies, disgraced former NYC Mayor and 2001 Time Person of the Year, Rudy Giuliani was ordered to pay $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers whose lives he ruined after he spread baseless lies about them following the 2020 election.
The jury comprised of eight people and was seated in DC. Mom Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss were each awarded roughly $16 million for defamation, $20 million each for the emotional distress and $75 million total in “punitive” damages.
Judge Howell had already found Giuliani liable due to his complete failure to turn over any evidence, so the jury was only tasked with determining monetary damage awards. And wow, did they. Both Freeman and Moss testified and reports are their stories of harassment, threats, fear and victimization were heart wrenching. Rudy said he was going to testify, but changed his mind at the 11th hour.
It is unclear if Freeman or Moss will actually see a substantial amount of money, as Giuliani is reportedly broke.
After the hearing, Giuliani told a gaggle of waiting reporters: "I don’t regret a damn thing.” He also stated that he would be appealing the ruling and called the monetary award "absurd."
