MSNBC's Symone Sanders-Townsend finally had enough of GOP Rep. Tim Burchett after one too many lies trying to justify their latest witch hunt dressed up as an "impeachment inquiry" and accusing her of being a "Democrat operative" in order to attack her instead of answering her questions.
Tim Burchett (R-TN), who had voted to oust fellow Republican Kevin McCarthy as House speaker, was cornered on MSNBC's Symone after he was unable to recite evidence warranting an inquiry into a President Joe Biden impeachment.
The host asked Burchett why he voted in favor of a Biden impeachment inquiry, and he responded by stating various alleged crimes attributable to the president's son, Hunter Biden. When asked about specific facts linking the elder Biden to these crimes, Burchett had no direct answers, instead continuing to list payments made to or from Hunter. [...]
"I haven't heard a high crime or misdemeanor yet," Symone said.
"Are you gonna let me answer the question, ma'am? I know you're a Democrat operative and work for a Democrat consulting firm, but ---"
"Alright, congressman, let's do it then," Symone cut in, adding that they are "out of time, but we're gonna do it."
"I did use to advise a number of individuals, I've also advised some corporations and companies, but here I'm just here to be an advocate for the viewer," she said. "And I will ask you one last time. What is the evidence that the committee has that Joe Biden, while he was president, committed a high crime, misdemeanor, or treason. Because that is the bar for an impeachment inquiry."
He replied, "You have to ask yourself, ma'am, why a vice president or a president would get $40,000 through a Chinese communist corporation..."
"With that thank you very much, congressman it's always a pleasure, you just can't come on here and lie," Symone said.
It would be nice to see more of them tell these lying Republicans the same thing, and then maybe a whole lot less of them would be willing to come on television just to be humiliated.
I'm not sure which NBC article Symone was quoting from, but there's one from October discussing the fact that the documents Comer requested were from before Biden was president:
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., is requesting that the White House provide documentation of a $200,000 loan that President Joe Biden made to his brother James Biden in 2018. [...]
Comer, whose committee is one of three leading an impeachment inquiry into Biden, cited the Internal Revenue Code for reporting “below-market [rate] loans” in questioning whether the president had adhered to specific requirements for issuing the loan and whether any interest had been paid. [...]
Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the committee, also disputed Comer's characterization of the documents in the panel's possession. In a letter to the Kentucky Republican on Thursday, Raskin said documents obtained by the panel “clearly show” that bank records provided to the committee indicated Biden had wired $200,000 to his brother on Jan. 12, 2018.“
Despite this clear evidence that James Biden received a loan from his brother on January 12, 2018, and paid him back 48 days later with a check for the same amount marked ‘loan repayment,’ you continue to misrepresent the facts,” Raskin wrote.
There's also an article from this month discussing the "inquiry":
House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., has accused Hunter Biden and other Biden family members of engaging in “shady business practices” but has yet to demonstrate any concrete evidence of wrongdoing or influence peddling by the president himself. Republicans have investigated a $200,000 check the president’s brother James Biden made out to him. Documents reviewed by NBC News show that the president made a $200,000 loan to his brother in 2018, which James Biden repaid with that check, which was marked “loan repayment,” a few months later.
They know they've got nothing and this is nothing more than a fishing expedition. Not a thing has changed, and they're still running the same playbook from the Clinton years, and sadly, the majority of our corporate media in this country isn't pushing back hard enough against what these MAGA enablers in the House are doing.
I'm glad Symone got onto him for lying, but he needed to be fact checked with more specifics, and the follow up on her show should have done the same, which it did not. It was a political operative and former GOP Congressmen who is a never Trumper being asked how they feel about what the guy said. When someone lies on your airway, they need to be fact-checked either during the interview or immediately after. Just calling them a liar when they lie doesn't cut it.
I know that's a tall order these days, and most of our corporate media doesn't even seem remotely up to trying to take on that task. You have someone on who lies, you should have a fact-check sheet in your hand during the interview about the things you know they're going to lie about.
