Steve Bannon was apoplectic after the House passed a version of the NDAA without all of the culture war nonsense in it the hard right wingers wanted. You love to see it. And he wasn't just crazed over it, he was ranting about how Mike Johnson was no Christian for facilitating the passage of the bill.
Can we just start by saying Steve Bannon wouldn't know Christ if he walked up and struck him speechless? Let's get real here. This is just a cynical effort to inflame the wingers who wanted all the anti-abortion, anti-diversity language in there so they could feel all righteous and stuff. Johnson, recognizing that NOT passing the NDAA was far worse than passing one without all the culture wars in it, got it done with Democrats' help and without all the crap language in it.
Bannon, being the cynical piece of shit that he is, decided to hammer Johnson with the Christian card.
"If you had the stones and the balls you could shut this thing down right now the NDAA just passed. It just passed," Bannon ranted. "This is Mike Johnson and don't tell me you're a Christian. I don't want to hear you're a Christian. Don't wear your faith."
And then he really launched into it.
"I don't hear more Bible verse when you've allowed the transgender -- you've allowed all that garbage, all that tra-- demonic trash throughout the defense budget that you wonder why...you can't get that you can't kids, you know red-blooded American boys and girls to get into the military?" Bannon was just warming up.
"With what you've done in this neo-Marxism and this cultural rot now you have taxpayers paying for in almost a trillion dollars and you allowed this to happen when the commitment if you can't get the majority done go to the floor of the Hastert rule," he raved.
The Hastert rule. Oh yes, the rule created by Denny Hastert, child molester. That rule says they don't schedule a vote unless the majority in their party supports the bill. So Bannon would just as soon that the military doesn't get paid as that defense appropriations are made with all sorts of BS culture war stuff in them. Got it.
On he went. "But you waive that to get this there because you're playing footsie with Mitch McConnell Schumer and you're just as bad as the bun [sic] guys. Because you should know better. So I don't need to hear any more biblical review," he blustered.
You know, its kind of fun to see Steve Bannon lit up by his own side. There will never, ever be anyone who is fascist enough or authoritarian enough for him. And to be clear, he doesn't give a damn about any of this. It's all just a way to keep the base angry.
