Congress voted on Tuesday over Speaker Kevin McCarthy's political future as Florida Man Rep. Matt Gaetz pushed for his ouster. Democrats are united: McCarthy is on his own. As Rep. Pramila Jayapal said, "I mean, let them wallow in their pigsty of incompetence and inability to govern. They are destroying our institutions."

The motion to table requires a simple majority to succeed. The vote was 208 to 218, with 11 Republicans against the motion to table. So Gaetz's side, including Rep. Andy Biggs, got 30 minutes to speak, and allies of McCarthy's, including Rep. Jim Jordan, got 30 minutes in total to speak. And then we all killed ourselves, and no one needed Congress anymore.

So, it came down to whether Gaetz could garner the votes from Republicans, including the Chaos Crew, to oust McCarthy. The last time a vote was forced to remove the Speaker was in 1910. Gaetz sure knows how to grandstand. You almost want to feel sorry for McCarthy until you realize he defended Trump after the former President incited the attack on the Capitol, just after he bashed him for it. Yeah, fuck that guy.

So, he was, indeed, fucked.

The 214 threshold was met, and McCarthy was ousted in a 216-210 vote.

And because nothing can happen in the House until a new Speaker is elected, the House once again has to vote as many times as it takes to get someone to the 218-vote mark. And if you're feeling a sense of Deja Vu, there is a reason for that.
