Newly minted House Speaker Mike Johnson seemed to blend into the background, but now that he's been gifted with the gavel, his background is popping up. Johnson has said it's "too soon" to talk about gun control even after the latest mass shooting in which the perpetrator is still armed and at large. His past remarks on gun control are just more of the same. There are no solutions; just let people get mowed down in the street. But he's also a liar. Johnson's past remarks on gay marriage are returning to haunt him, too.

From calling same-sex relationships a "Pandora's box," to seeking to criminalize homosexual activity between consenting adults, Johnson's words are well-documented. The Advocate listed quite a few of Johnson's anti-gay actions. But Johnson didn't seem to remember the eleventy bazillion times that he has made anti-gay remarks, such as that legalizing it would mean pedophiles could claim “equal protection."

Fox News's Sean Hannity asked Johnson about his stance on homosexuality, pointing to the years worth of anti-gay statements he had made over the course of his career.

Via Pink News:

“You have been getting hammered on this. I want to ask you about it… Some of these comments were 15 years ago,” Hannity told him. Johnson replied: “I don’t even remember some of them.”

He went on to explain that some of his statements were made during his time as a “religious liberty defense lawyer” for the ADF (Alliance Defending Freedom).

The ADF is listed as an anti-LGBTQ+ group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and also made efforts to counter abortion access and equal rights for women and discredit the results of the 2020 presidential election.

“I think it was over 35 states, somewhere in that number, that the people went to the ballot in their respective states and they amended their state constitutions to say that marriage is one man and one woman. I was a religious liberty defense lawyer, and I was called to go in and defend those cases in court.”

I suppose he doesn't remember this:

"Homosexual relationships are inherently unnatural and, the studies clearly show, are ultimately harmful and costly for everyone,” he wrote. “Society cannot give its stamp of approval to such a dangerous lifestyle. If we change marriage for this tiny, modern minority, we will have to do it for every deviant group. Polygamists, polyamorists, pedophiles, and others will be next in line to claim equal protection. They already are. There will be no legal basis to deny a bisexual the right to marry a partner of each sex or a person to marry his pet.”

Well, Google can find it if he needs to refresh his memory.
