Wisconsin Speaker of the Assembly Robin Vos is still pissed off about getting punk'd by Governor Tony Evers on the state budget. Evers used some creative vetoing to guarantee funding for public education for the next 400 years. To make matters worse for Boss Vos, Evers did it by negating a massive tax break for the ultra rich.
Vos is so upset that he took time from his vacation in Belgium to complain about getting outmaneuvered. He said that he hoped that some right hand group would sue Evers over the move, because "Evers lied to us." Keep in mind that what Evers did was perfectly legal under state law, which was established by the GOP, and had been utilized by former governor Scott Walker.
But Boss Vos was not done there. He also demanded that his office staff whip out a press release condemning the move. The only problem is that Vos said all the quiet parts out loud:
“Vetoing tax cuts on the top two brackets provides hardly any tax relief for truly middle-class families. His decision also creates another economic disadvantage for Wisconsin, leaving our top bracket higher than most of our neighboring states, including Illinois.
So when did making $360,000 a year qualify as middle class?
“Wisconsin property taxpayers will also bear the burden of Gov. Evers veto regarding per-pupil school funding. By allowing this level into the future, homeowners will experience massive property tax increases in the coming years.
Funny how Vos doesn't mention the exponential increase of taxpayer money going towards privatized schools, which he was doing victory laps about a few days before.
“I am disappointed with his decision to reinstate diversity, equity, and inclusion positions on our college campuses. Contrary to Governor Evers’ statements, Republicans are not waging a war AGAINST higher education. We are waging a war FOR higher education by signaling that well-balanced instruction and merit-based advancement should be the foundation of earning a degree.
All that fancy book learnin' is only good when you strike the white balance of students! How much money did the Bradley Foundation pay this guy to regurgitate their racist rhetoric?
“Additionally, the state’s Medicaid program should not be funding transgender surgeries and gender-affirming care. The Governor’s veto allowing this practice to continue takes money away from low-income families who truly need Medicaid dollars for important healthcare visits and procedures.
Tax dollars shouldn't be used to provide healthcare to children? But maybe if Vos would stop blocking Wisconsin from expanding Medicaid, there wouldn't be even the question if there was enough money.
Vos probably has it in the back of his mind that justice returns to Wisconsin on August 1st, when the state supreme court takes a progressive lean. His position as speaker and maybe even his own seat could be in trouble after they take a look at the extreme gerrymandering that Vos ensured orchestrated. It couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow.
