Former Vice President Mike Pence has distanced himself from former President Donald Trump's "pressure" on state governors to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

In a report on Saturday, The Washington Post revealed Trump "pressured" Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) to overturn the election in his state.

But Pence could not recall the "pressure" Trump put on state governors.

"I did check in, with not only Gov. Ducey, but other governors and states that were going through the legal process of reviewing their election results," Pence told CBS host Margaret Brennan. "But there was no pressure involved. Margaret, I was calling to get an update. I passed along that information to the president. It was no more, no less than that."

"I don't remember any pressure," he added.

Pence was asked if Trump had pressured him to influence state governors.

"The president expressed his strong belief that I had authority that I did not have under the Constitution in the closing days," the former vice president recalled. "But [in November and December 2020]," Pence said, "this was about information gathering, finding out what was going on."
