The Republican Party of Michigan has been in disarray for months. They have been constantly fighting with each other and running in circles chasing conspiracy theories. A big part of their problem is the lack of leadership at the top, having elected, Kristina Karamo, an election denier and general crackpot to be the party chair.
Now, for at least the second time, their infighting has led to a physical altercation It all started when some people weren't allowed into a closed committee meeting.
Mark DeYoung, who chairs the Clare County Republican Party, said he heard Chapman’s attempt to enter the room and opened the door after seeing someone flip him the bird through a window. “He kicked me in my balls as soon as I opened the door,” DeYoung said of Chapman, speaking to The Detroit News by phone from the emergency room.
DeYoung added that Chapman charged him, slamming his body into a chair, and said he now has a broken rib. He intends to press charges.
“We’re so divided,” DeYoung told the paper. “I just wish we could come together.”
The paper also interviewed Chapman, who admitted he grabbed DeYoung’s legs and pushed him over, although Chapman said that DeYoung threatened him by saying, “I’ll kick your ass,” and took a swing at him. DeYoung denied Chapman’s claims.
Chapman also said that during the confrontation, he removed his glasses. “When you see me taking my glasses off, I’m ready to rock,” Chapman said.
In April, two Republican officials got into a physical fight regarding Karamo's leadership, or lack thereof.
The fact that the GOP is actually getting into physical melees with each other shows the level of frustration and anger they have, as well as their immaturity, stemming from the schism between the far right MAGA nut jobs and the average, run of the mill GOP nut jobs. But it's a far better thing that they take it out on each other instead of on the people of Michigan.
