In an interview last night, Sean Hannity tried to back Gov. Gavin Newsom into a corner by proposing a series of debates.
"Get some of the best, brightest, leading conservative minds and some of the best, brightest, left-wing minds, liberal minds, and I put you in that category. I want to call it, like, The Great Debates," Hannity said.
(Pretty low bar, isn't it, Sean? Just how many "best and brightest" conservative minds actually exist? Who are you gonna put up against Newsom if DeSantis says no, Ben Shapiro? Charlie Kirk?)
"Here's how this format will go. I'll say, Governor Newsom, Governor DeSantis: Economy. That's the only word."
"I'm all in," Newsom said.
"You'd do a two-hour debate with Ron DeSantis?"
"Make it three," Newsom responded. "Do it with one day's notice with no notes. We can talk about his zest for demonization and kidnapping."
Newsom went on to rip DeSantis for lying to migrants and sending them to states where they were promised jobs.
Hannity insisted they signed a waiver.
"Come on. I read the waiver. They showed me the waiver, I couldn't understand it, and I have a decent education," the governor said.
"They're human beings. They were kids, children. Why do you use people as pawns? What faith tradition teaches you to treat people like this, to belittle them?"
Newsom said he sat down with the migrants and talked to every one of them.
"They were lied to, misled. They were told they had jobs, court dates. They were dropped off, knocked on the door and left. What kind of faith tradition teaches that? They were lied to and told, 'You're being taken care of.' "
Hannity said California is a sanctuary state, "You should be happy. This is California."
"I know it's California, I'm aware of where I am. The fourth largest economy in the world. We can handle all of it," Newsom said. "I'm a border state. Ron DeSantis is not."
He then predicted, "Donald Trump is going to clean his clock. DeSantis will belly flop."
