Earlier today former NFL star and Texas Democrat Rep. Colin Allred announced in a video that he is entering the race to challenge Sen. Ted Cruz in 2024.

“We don’t have to be embarrassed by our senator. We can get a new one,” Allred said in his new video, noting that Cruz cheered on the mob during the January 6th insurrection and then hid in a closet when the mob invaded. "That's Ted for you. All hat, no cattle."

Allred continues to paint Cruz as a Senator who is basically a Republican influencer rather than a Senator, as a divider rather than a uniter.

Allred, is not a progressive icon. He scored a C on Progressive Punch's scorecard which is considered "acceptable" as a Democrat in his district. His video quite clearly is intended to appeal to Republicans in Texas who aren't interested in fighting the culture wars as much as getting things done. The question will be whether there are enough of those to make a difference.

As usual, Ted Cruz painted Allred as if he's the most far-left radical democrat in the world.

“Democrats have once again turned to a far-left radical to run for Senate. Not only does Colin Allred vote with Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time, but his voting record is completely out-of-touch with Texas," a spokesperson for Cruz said in a statement following Allred’s announcement."

Allred will have to win the primary to become the actual nominee for the Democratic party.

Cruz barely beat Beto O'Rourke last time out so let's hope Texans see the light and dump this ignoramus.
