In case you missed it, #LyingKayleigh McEnany is auditioning to replace Tucker Carlson next week. I doubt it’s any coincidence that she let Carlson’s white supremacist fan base know she’s their kind of gal on Friday.
Fox has been hard at work defending the murder of Jordan Neely on a New York subway. It’s no surprise that Fox would be cheering on another vigilante murder, especially that of a Black man who was reportedly acting belligerent. But McEnany played the Tucker Carlson card by making a snide, racial “joke” about the tragedy.
McEnany began a discussion about the “growing protest” over Neely’s death, in a chokehold at the hands of a fellow passenger, by sneering that while the incident is being investigated, “some people have already made up their minds.”
“Angry protesters, they took to the streets last night demanding justice or else,” McEnany said. Of course, she meant “angry, threatening Black protesters” took to the streets. To reinforce the message, we saw film of the protesters, accompanied by drums and chanting, “What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now! If we don’t get it, burn it down!” That last refrain was repeated several times. To make sure the Fox viewers were sufficiently frightened and/or inflamed, large, all-capitalized subtitled appeared in the center of the screen.
But McEnany had a special racist shout out for any Tucker fans who worry the network may have gone too “woke" in firing him. First, she repeated, “Justice or they’ll burn it down” yet one more time. Then she “quipped” about the protesters, “Well, at least they have rhythm.” There was appreciative laughter off screen from the cohosts.
Fox News may have ditched Tucker Carlson but Carlson-ism will live on.
