The Nashville Council righted a wrong Monday by voting unanimously to reinstate Rep. Justin Jones to send him back to the Tennessee statehouse after Republicans expelled him. Instead of silencing the two Black lawmakers, the backlash thrust the Tennesee Three into the national spotlight. All eyes have been on Tennessee.

MSNBC caught up with Jones after he was sworn in.

"Today is an important step forward for democracy, but it's not the end," he said, "They tried to kill democracy last Thursday, but today is a testimony of the resurrection of people power."

"We hope we'll continue to show up here at the legislature because (House Speaker) Cameron Sexton needs to resign," he continued.

"We need action for common sense gun laws," he said. "We need to support these young people who are begging for their lives."

"And so today is not the end, but it's the beginning," Jones said. "It's a testament to this movement that they cannot attack us, and we will just bow down."

"But we're gonna stand up and rise up together," he added.

While Jones was being sworn in on the steps of the state capitol, a massive crowd of supporters gathered around him and cheered. Republicans have no idea what they started, but this wasn't what they planned on. The Tennessee Three isn't going to curl up and die. Republicans’ first mistake was underestimating the Democratic lawmakers.
