Trump's leading MAGA-loving insurrectionist Steve Bannon got himself so worked up this week he dropped an f-bomb.
Bannon's emotions overflowed over Rep. Mike Gallagher bashing Wisconsin's 1950's commie witch-hunter Joseph McCarthy. We are not making that up.
Bannon reacted to Gallagher's appearance on Face the Nation.
Host Margaret Brennan asked if his Committee will turn into a House UnAmerican Activities Committee-style witch hunt from days gone past.
"I mean, how do you reassure people that this doesn't steer into Joseph McCarthy territory?" Brennan asked.
"Joseph McCarthy's from my district, he's buried in my district. We need not exhume his body and reanimate it. And I've written ...we must constantly be aware of going overboard as we try and win this competition with China," Gallagher replied.
That was too much for Bannon.
"Don't be trashing Joe McCarthy," Bannon said. "Don't be trashing Joe McCarthy. Joseph McCarthy got to the bottom of a lot of stuff, including who sold us out and gave the Chinese Communist party China."
(There's no evidence of that.)
"Which was when the US government State Department was chock-a-bloc with communists. That was sympathetic to the "agrarian populism" of the CCP, got totally f**king..," Bannon said.
"Oh, boy, just used the F-word right there. Boom, there goes a, there goes a fine."
Bannon's show is a streaming podcast. He can't get fined by the FCC for swearing. But he's pretending he's bigger than he is to his audience.
And Joseph McCarthy ruined hundreds of American lives with his own personal witch hunt, based on nothing, so yeah, Bannon sees him as a role model.
On 02/02/1950, Joseph McCarthy made a speech and claimed, "he has a list with the names of over 200 members of the Department of State that are “known communists.” The speech vaulted McCarthy to national prominence and sparked a nationwide hysteria about subversives in the American government."
Of course, McCarthy never produced "any solid evidence that there was even one communist in the State Department" and died a disgrace.
But yeah, the MAGA cult and their cries about "deep state" and "voter fraud" lunacy have their role model. Joseph McCarthy.
No sense of decency.
