South Carolina Republican Nancy Mace took to the House floor to address legislation that proposes the death penalty for women who get abortions.
State Rep. Rob Harris, who considers himself pro-life, introduced the South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023 last week, which could make getting an abortion the same as committing homicide. So, the pro-life idiot wants the death penalty for women who get an abortion.
"Last week, a member of the state legislature in South Carolina filed a piece of legislation that would execute women who have abortions," Mace said. "To see this debate go to the dark places, the dark edges where it has gone on both sides of the aisle have been deeply disturbing as a woman, as a female legislature, as a mom, and as a victim of rape."
Mace said that there needs to be a "balance" between these decisions. She wants greater access to contraceptives. Mace has repeatedly urged her party to step away from extremism with the anti-abortion agenda that includes strict bans and shift to a more "compassionate" view.
Mace is well aware that the overturn of Roe cost Republicans quite a few seats. And the more extreme Republicans get, the more they will lose. As it happens, access to safe abortions is popular. Republicans can never get rid of abortions. They can only get rid of safe abortions.
It doesn't get any more extreme than State Rep. Rob Harris wanting to have women executed.
