After Rep. Matt Gaetz proposed an amendment that would require the reading of the Pledge of Allegiance before each hearing and Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island easily punked House Republicans during today's Judiciary committee hearing.
Gym Jordan said Rep. Cicilline would explain his amendment to the amendment.
"It would add in the second paragraph - provided that the pledge should not be read by an individual who supported an insurrection against the government of the United States in any way," Cicilline said.
"I think it's important that we can have some confidence that we don't make a mockery by selecting someone to lead the pledge of allegiance who, in fact, participated in any way in the overthrow of the government of the United States," he said.
That amendment would exclude Rep. Jim Jordan, the new Chairman of Judiciary, from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance as well.
Hahaha.
Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) got angry and said that "insurrection" is a crime judged by a jury. Because splitting hairs is all they've got.
