Donald Trump repeatedly vowed to release his tax returns if he's elected president. Once that happened, he said he was under audit. "I don't mind releasing. I'm under a routine audit, and it'll be released," he claimed. However, Trump's taxes were not released before 2009 when he wasn't under audit. The IRS confirmed that it's OK for the now ex-president to release his tax returns while under audit. But he didn't.
After years of not keeping his campaign promise, it will come to fruition. And, as it happens, Rep. Richard Neal explained that there were no audits taking place as Trump claimed.
The House and Ways and Means Committee voted 24-16 to approve a motion to release the materials surrounding former President Donald Trump's tax returns to the House of Representatives, which is basically to the public.
The vote was along party lines because they had to protect their one-term president, who has been referred for four criminal charges, including insurrection.
The Hill reports:
The returns, encompassing years 2015 to 2020, could be released in as soon as hours as part of two reports from the Ways and Means Committee to the broader Congress about the presidential audit system of the IRS.
Trump supporters are mad that Trump will be forced to fulfill his campaign promise, but Democrats are pretty happy right now.
Progressive groups cheered on the Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday to release the tax returns to the public.
"Tax fairness starts at the top: if the president is not paying his fair share or is otherwise abusing the tax laws, the American people have the right to know," Frank Clemente, director of the Americans for Tax Fairness nonprofit, said in a statement.
I think, and I could be wrong, that we'll find out that Trump is drowning in debt. If you Google me, it says I'm worth a bazillion dollars (LOL), when, in fact, I'm just a thousandaire. In Trump's case, he painted himself as a fancy pants billionaire, even though he was given every dollar he had to start in life from his father, and he even screwed that up. Daddy Trump had to bail out Donald repeatedly.
Moral of the story: Don't pretend to be something you're not. It catches up with ya'.
