Attention Great Pumpkin nerds! Around this time of year, for several years in a row, my father, who was an elementary school principal, would take my brother and I to his school to celebrate the rise of the Great One and watch "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", which is a tale as old as time and honestly belongs in the Bible where it could be easily squeezed in between Letters of Paul to Timothy and the Letter of Paul to Titus.
I'm pretty sure this was all a scam to get us out of the house because my birthday is one day before Halloween (Beggar's Night to you Hawkeyes) and this would allow my mom to make sneaky preparations for the event. Or maybe our teevee was just crap (it was) and this was the most reliable way to watch on a better set than we ever had.
Anyway, as a sign that the End Times are truly upon us, for no damn good reason at all, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" won't be on teeve this year. The good news is, NPR has a work-around and here it is.
