Fox News host Jesse Watters told a columnist he longed for the days when homeless people were locked up in insane asylums, drugged up and restrained in straitjackets.
The city of Denver is running a pilot program led by the Denver Basic Income Project to provide monthly cash assistance to more than 140 women, transgender and gender non-confirming individuals, and families in shelters.
The program will be evaluated by University of Denver’s Center for Housing and Homelessness Research using a randomized control trial. Several measures will be monitored over the course of the program, such as housing outcomes, utilization of shelter and other homeless services, improvements in psychological health and substance use, and other domains of wellbeing for those who opt into the evaluation.
As Walter Einenkel writes, "The basic idea is that you choose a few people and give them a solid stipend of money with no requirements on how they use that money. So far, in every case, Universal Basic Income projects have shown solid returns in helping people dealing with clear economic hardships that range from being unhoused to simply being unable to save any money juggling bills."
But if you listen to Fox News, Denver is just handing out thousand dollar bills to transgender homeless people at random to have government control over them.
I think.
"It was more civilized when we banished them to asylums and put them in straitjackets and gave them the help and the drugs that they needed in an institution," Watters said callously.
By the way, many homeless people are not in need of mental help.
Putting the homeless in straitjackets and locking them up in insane asylums right out of the 1963 Samuel Fuller movie Shock Corridor is more civilized? Wake up Jesse, even if that was the case, where are the asylums needed to house thousands upon thousands of people?
Watters hosted Glenn K. Beaton, a man who exclaimed, “There were no good guys at Charlottesville" to discuss.
These two lie about what Denver is doing with their pilot program, bash the transgender community and then wish America was back in the nineteenth century.
Twp reprobates of the highest order.
