According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Flynn was sworn in Thursday to the executive committee, thus “setting the stage for a possible shift in local GOP leadership towards a more extreme approach.”
Ya think?
Let’s be clear: Flynn is not just “more extreme,” he’s anti-American. As I wrote in May, when he openly sided with Russia over America’s ally, Ukraine, he kicked off the Trump administration by betraying the U.S. to Russia. He closed it with the receipt of a sketchy pardon that suggested a Trump coverup. He plotted with other members of the Trump coup cabal to overturn the 2020 election. When asked by the Jan. 6th committee if he believes in “the peaceful transition of power in the United States of America,” he refused to answer and pleaded the Fifth Amendment.
The same Herald-Tribune article noted, “He headlined a rally in Bradenton last year that included a group of Proud Boys, who stood on stage while a pro-Trump rapper sang 'Back the Blue.'”
Flynn obviously plans to use his new position to further his dangerous politics. He took aim at the acting chair of the Sarasota Republicans, telling the Herald-Tribune, “We must now meet the challenges of the future by bringing on new leaders with fresh ideas for the challenges we will likely face.”
But the Sarasota Republicans are just fine with having Flynn on board – because political power!
Asked about concerns that Flynn could take the party in a more extreme direction, [current chair Joe] Gruters said: “I think General Flynn is out to make sure America is the best possible place to live and he wants to defend our Constitution.”
Gruters added: “We’re happy to have him in our community and we’re happy to have him to help us win elections.”
