Just two days before Insurrection 2.0, or Insurrection Light or J6 Rally - I don't know what they are calling it - Trump decided that these are his people and they are being treated so badly. So, of course, he put out a statement talking about how awful everyone is being to his besties. Some quotes:
“Our hearts and minds are with the people being persecuted so unfairly relating to the January 6th protest,” he said, referencing his false statements about the election. He went on to talk about his favorite topic - the rigged election.
If you want to read the full statement, and have a strong gag reflex, here it is:

Short, sweet and totally bonkers. I mean if the Republicans ever thought Trump was going to walk away from the insanity of January 6th, they were so very wrong. These insurrectionists are Ride Or Die for Trump forever. They are, quite literally, willing to go to PRISON for him. For his lie. For his insanity and delusion about a stolen election. These people refuse vaccination, think Biden is a puppet or a robot, think Hillary killed people, believe there are children being hidden in the basement of a pizza place in DC, think windmills cause cancer and definitely think Donald Trump won the election by tens of millions of votes. And they represent 78 percent of the Republican Party.
None of these things are true, of course. And anyone with an IQ over 50 knows this. But these people sitting in jail cells or on house arrest are so willing to give it all up for a man that has no idea who they are and does not actually care. These are not his class of people. He would never shake their hands or socialize in public with them. He would never let them into his fancy golf clubs (they can't afford the dues anyhow) and he does not know their names or care. He has no ability to pardon them and he will not be reinstated as president. But these statements - when he puts them out - is like pouring literal kerosene on a giant fire. And he knows it.
What is his end game? My guess: he is actually sad that there is buzz about Saturday's rally being a bust. He wants to see a crowd. He gets a thrill from the violence. The violence that people are willing to commit FOR HIM. In HIS name. He gets a sick, twisted pleasure from it all.
Evil, thy name is Trump.
