If you were able to take in Attorney General Bill Barr's House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing last week you no doubt noticed that some of the Democratic questioners were better than others. The internet certainly did.
For example there was this response to one particularly astute inquisitor:
"Rep. Jayapal was on fire today, and absolutely destroyed Bill Barr!"
At a later hearing with members of Trump's coronavirus task force, there was another great questioner who was celebrated on twitter:
Jamie Raskin is my new personal hero! - "a stack of paper is NOT A PLAN!" "Blaming China is not a plan."
And the response to the speech last week by one of America's great future leaders was nothing short of rhapsodic:
Perspective: AOC’s speech about Ted Yoho’s "apology" was a comeback for the ages
That wasn't from some twitter fanboy. That was The Washington Post.
What do all of these people have in common? They are all Blue America alumni and they were all elected thanks to people like you.
It's pretty obvious these days that the country is moving in a more progressive direction. And it isn't simply a backlash against Donald Trump and the extremist GOP. They may have heightened the contrasts between a sane, patriotic America and the increasingly extreme conservative movement but that's only part of the story. The country has legitimately moved to the left in a way most people didn't think was possible when Blue America was founded back in 2006.
Back then, progressives like you were derided as pie-in-the-sky dreamers flailing about in what everyone insisted was obviously a very conservative country. But you didn't believe it. So, you spent money and time and effort working to elect progressives to the House and Senate and it hasn't been easy.
In the early years, it was sometimes downright deflating.
But over time, the project to elect more progressives to congress has paid off, as you can see whenever these winning Blue America candidates get the national spotlight.
Here is the list of worthy Blue America incumbents if you'd like to contribute.
The list includes Raul Grijalva, who was just diagnosed with COVID-19, almost certainly after having been forced to return to Washington for the hearing last week at which the infected Louis Gohmert refused to wear a mask. (The Trump administration refused to allow their witnesses to appear at a video hearing.)
They are all great American leaders who must be re-elected so that progressives can form the backbone that's necessary to start digging this country out of the toxic morass the Republicans will have left behind.
And if you'd like to contribute to the next generation of Blue America leaders, you can do so by clicking the "Blue America Better House 2020" thermometer on the right.
This looks like it could be another blue wave year and the next AOC or Pramila Jayapal might be among them.
Thank you from all of us at Blue America for your support for progressive candidates all these years. Take a bow. It's working!
Thanks for always doing what you can to make this a better world,
Heather "Digby" Parton, for the entire Blue America team
