We laugh at other countries' media outlets who routinely pull this sort of trick on their viewers. That it happens just as frequently on Fox News and in the United States should give one pause.

President Trump on Thursday shared an inaccurate graphic on Twitter that significantly overstated his overall job approval rating in a new poll and falsely suggested it was “soaring.”
The graphic, which appears to have been produced by the Fox Business Network and aired on “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” indicated that Trump’s overall job approval was 55 percent while his approval on handling the economy was 58 percent.
The figure on the economy was correct, but the accurate overall approval figure was 43 percent in the poll cited, which was conducted for the Georgetown University Institute of Politics and Public Service.
About 40 minutes after Trump’s tweet, Mo Elleithee, director of the institute at Georgetown, went on Twitter to correct the record.
And naturally, this ahole retweeted the fraudulent numbers.
I’m the Director of @GUPolitics & this graphic is incorrect.
The Battleground Poll shows 58% approval on the economy.
But it shows only 43% overall approval, & 52% disapproval.
The 55% number is the President’s unfavorable rating. (Only 40% favorable.)https://t.co/a00b6ljiJl https://t.co/nntXuHaUKj— Mo Elleithee (@MoElleithee) April 11, 2019
And here are the actual numbers.
EDITOR'S UPDATE:
Now, Fox Business News has issued a correction. Not an apology, mind you, but a lamely-worded correction. And not until half a day later. Politico reported:
“It’s been a quite start to the day for President Trump, though he did send out a tweet this morning from the Lou Dobbs show last night on Fox Business," Washington correspondent Blake Burman said on behalf of Fox Business. "That tweet featured a poll that was not entirely accurate, which Fox Business would like to correct."
"Not entirely accurate?" Try COMPLETELY FALSE. Opposite. Misleading. A lie. We're guessing what's not entirely accurate is that Fox Business would like to correct it. Smells like propaganda to us.
