Donald Trump couldn't handle not being in the spotlight after Rep. Nancy Pelosi was sworn in as the new Speaker so he hastily threw together a PR stunt billed as a White House press briefing.
This embarrassing antic was nothing more that a glorified photo-op with three members of the Border Patrol Council. None of them, including Trump, took any questions from the press.
The entire shameful event took roughly eight minutes and 24 seconds from the time Donald walked out in front of the cameras to the time he left the podium.
While Trump has shut down huge swath of the federal government, instead of working towards a solution he has chosen to address the media like Nero preening to his sycophants as the stock market burns. All because Nancy in her wondrous red dress was celebrated for becoming Speaker once again as she rode in on the midterm blue tsunami.
What a cad.
After congratulating Nancy Pelosi for her accomplishment, Trump went on to lie about the support he has from the public to build his fakakta wall. (And Trump is now calling it a barrier. From a concrete wall, to steel slats to a barrier.)
Trump lied, "The people of our country want it. I have never had so much support as I have in the last week over my stance for border security, for border control and for frankly the wall or the barrier."
He continued, " I have never had anything like it in terms of calls coming in, in terms of people writing in and tweeting and doing whatever they have to do. I have never had this much support and we’ve done some things as you know that have been very popular.”
As Bill Kristol reminded us, there are no calls coming into the White House because Trump shut down the goverment. Calls of sweet nothings from Lou Dobbs do not count, Donald.
Trump then had three bald members of the Border Patrol union make their loyalty pledges to Donald and annunciate their support to build a wall/barrier, which they did very quickly.
All the latest polling shows Trump has lost the border wall fight with the public as well as the shutdown, but he doesn't care.
He craved media attention like a drug addict agonizing from deep opioid withdrawals. He couldn't go one single day with attention turned away from him to something else. What a pathetic state he is in.
