As if the lying wasn't enough, Brett Kavanaugh also descended into the land of extreme partisanship to defend his man-honor and claim the seat he thinks he's entitled to. In fact, his remarks in his opening statement prove he does not have the temperament to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. At all.
Here's a tiny snippet of the 45-minute rant he called an opening statement. By the way, if this is a taste of sober Brett Kavanaugh, we can only imagine that drunk Brett Kavanaugh is meaner, angrier, and a real bully. It certainly validates Dr. Blasey Ford's account, and proves him to be less of an impartial arbiter of the law and more of a partisan activist.
The moment that leaped out at me during his rant was this:
"This whole two-week effort has been a calculated and orchestrated political hit fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election, fear that has been unfairly stoked about my judicial record, revenge on behalf of the Clintons and millions of dollars in money from outside left-wing opposition groups," he yelled
Is this where we mention the zillions of ads from the Judicial Crisis Network? Is it where we talk about the Federalist Society and the Billionaire Bucks funding these organizations? Or are those discussions for quiet rooms?
And then we get the threat, which is not all that different from the rant Senator Lindsey Graham launched in the hallway during a break in Dr. Blasey Ford's testimony.
"This is a circus. The consequences will extend long past my nomination. The consequences will be with us for decades. This grotesque and coordinated character assassination will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions from serving our country," he shouted.
"And as we all know, in the United States political system of the early 2000s, what goes around comes around. I am an optimistic guy i always trying to on the sunny side of the mountain, to be optimistic about the day that is coming. but today I have to say that I fear for the future."
Merrick Fcking Garland, you cynical Trumpster. Merrick. Fcking. Garland.
This moment of extreme partisanship was the equivalent of Republicans taking their collective hand and shoving it onto the mouths of Dr. Blasey Ford and all of the women who believe her. It was a giant middle finger to the institution of the United States Supreme Court and those of us who still consent to be governed. It trashed the rule of law and established as fact that everything -- EVEN SEXUAL ASSAULT -- is political.
Finally, it confirmed to women everywhere that for Republicans, women don't matter. They just don't. We are there for them to dry-hump while they turn the music up and laugh at us.
There is a committee vote this morning and a floor vote expected on Saturday. This will be the moment where they put their hands over our mouths to keep us from screaming.
